Evaluation Question 7

The preliminary task really helped me to feel confident in the main task. I felt that it gave me a good idea of what to expect for the main radio script. I found it quite difficult scripting my preliminary task but then when it came round to the real task it helped me and I didn't make the same mistakes again. I felt that I was not as prepared as I could have been for the preliminary task and could have taken a little more time to plan it but because I made that mistake first time round I made sure that I planned my final script and had plenty of time to re-do or change parts of it. If I hadn't have done the preliminary task I think the final task may have been a little bit rushed of un-thought through because I wouldn't have known what to expect or how long it takes to write how much of a script and actually how much you have to think about when writing it. When recording my preliminary task I learnt the basics of how to use the technology to record and edit sounds and voices and I also got to hear  lots of different sound effects that I could use in my preliminary task and also use in my final task. This helped to get an insight of recording the final product and helped me when I was writing the scrip because I could remember some of the things I heard and learnt and so I could include them. Looking back to my preliminary task I feel some of the decisions I made on who to record what voice and what music or sound effects to use may have been a little wrong but in making those mistakes it helps not to make them again and to make sure I planned everything out way before hand second time round.

Evaluation Question 6

I have learnt about technologies throughout the process of recording and editing. I found it really interesting how much you can change someone's voice/sounds by just making the pitch higher or lower or changing the tone or effect. Whilst recording the presenters and adverts I learnt how easy it is to make mistakes but on the other hand how easy it is to change those mistakes if they are made. For example if someone takes a deep breath whilst recording there part, you don't have to ask them to record it again you can just simply cut out that part of the recording really easily. The equipment we use to record looks quite simple but really it is quite complex. I learnt things like how far away someone has to stand from the mic to record, the small things like that will make a huge difference in how what they are saying sounds. I probably would not have had a clue how to even press record on the computer and record someone speaking before the process of constructing this product. I labelled each of the files and stored them in relevant folders including cuts, finished, mixed and music. This helped me keep organized and was easy access when it came to editing.
I recorded everything and then edited it after. I edited out things like gaps pauses, any mistakes removed and any talking to give the actor information and tips on how to record. Once I had edited I put music and sound effects over the top to make it more interesting and sound much better.
This is the voice of the mum in the foundation advert before I edited:

This is it then after I edited:

This is the Take that voice over before I edited:

This is the Take that voice over after I edited:

As you can see I have had to edit out quite alot to make it sound like it does at the end.

Evaluation Question 5

All my choices that I made were related to my audience. When choosing the music to be played on my radio station I asked a woman that fell into my category what kind of music she listened too. I did that so I knew what to play because there is no point playing music that my audience wouldn't listen too as it would be a waste of time and then people wouldn't tune in so that music plays an important role in the radio station.

Here is the song used at the beginning of my radio show. This is the edited version because I cut out some bits to make it shorter.

This is the edited version:

When deciding on the adverts to have on my radio station audience again was my main priority. I chose a foundation advert as one of them because I know that all woman especially ages 18-30 worry about there skin and how they look 24/7 so they could really relate and benefit from an advert like this.

Again there would be no use having an advert for a football match or beer as my audience would not be interested in those things but the audience of a radio show like sport definitely would. The adverts I feel are a big role in drawing the audience in and getting them to listen. If I went wrong and chose the wrong type of adverts for my radio station it would not sound good when being played through as parts of the show would be for my actual audience and parts would not be. When I was choosing my second advert for the show I asked people the types of things they would like to hear but also what kind of things they would actually go out and buy because some of the time people like to hear things advertised but they wouldn't actually buy it if they heard it advertised. Alot of people I spoke too said music albums. So I decided to do an album of a bands anniversary. The reason I chose that is because it always draws an audience in and stands out from just a normal album you can buy anywhere. Take that are all woman's favourite boy band so I chose them. I also made sure I asked the woman if they liked take that before I just finalised it.

When choosing my news stories I researched on the other radio stations first and listened to what things came up on there news. I gathered that my audience would probably be into Hollywood types of stuff and more gossipy news rather than like politicians or parliament or even sports news. I chose one serious/sad news story because when I was listening to some radio stations there was always at least one serious one. The other ones were more gossipy ones that my audience would enjoy hearing about. Another reason why your audience must want to listen to your news stories is because they will tune in again later if they can or go onto to the website to find out more about the story. The story about the celebrity break up was definitely included because of my audience. I chose that one specifically because I know how much people the ages of my audience  like to hear about gossip. I included the correspondent because I felt that her tone of voice would relate to my audience, she sounds young and is a woman.

For my ad I used certain people for voice's that I felt would represent the part they were playing to my audience well. For example the News presenter. I felt her voice was really suitable for this part and the audience would notice that she was the news presenter from the moment she started talking.

This is Rafi who played the boy in the foundation ad, I used his voice because it sounded childish and loud, just like I wanted.

Evaluation Question 4

When choosing my audience I had to do alot of research on what gender, age ect. My first most successful set of research was just asking people what they listened to, when they listened and how they listened. I found that useful because it gave me a really clear picture in my head of different peoples listening habits. Another bit of research I did was a questionarre. I didn't find this so useful because alot of people didn't have time to fill it out or just didn't want to so I found it was easier for people to quickly answer verbally rather than writing it down. My audience are woman from 18-30. I chose woman because the music and adverts that are on a station like Capital and Kiss appeal for woman. Also by asking people what shows they like the majority of teenagers and woman I asked alot of them listened to pop shows like Kiss, Capital as they always play up to date music and the things that the presenters speak about they feel they can relate too. One question I asked people was when they listen to radio, this was a very important question because I had to choose what time my show was going to be on air. I chose the breakfast show because alot of the listening habits for the teenagers and woman I spoke to was on the way to work in the car in the morning. Most of the woman only listened to radio in the morning on the way to work and in the evening on the way home from work and they would rarely turn on the radio unless they were in the car. This is because of other distractions like television at home and it is very convenient in the car to turn on the radio. My schedule is very much so buzzy and there is always something happening. I also asked the woman what is one thing they don't like when listening to radio and a big answer was when the show just drags along and nothing much is happening. I took that into consideration when writing my radio show and made sure that if an audience was to listen to mine that they wouldn't feel that happening.

Evaluation Question 3

My radio station is pop. Its like Capital, Kiss and Radio 1. My radio show is very much adverts, songs and abit of talking from the presenters. I don't think its talk show and I tried to make it similar to Capital, Kiss ect. It relies on the songs played and what presenters say.

Evaluation Question 2

When choosing who was going to records what voice I had to really think about it because if the wrong person recorded the wrong voice I feel that it could ruin that whole section of my show. For some of the parts it didn't actually matter who played them and I could just pick anyone e.g the voices of the public in the news. One of my hardest choices who was going to record the Jingle voices because that's one of the most important voices that have got to sound really good. I made my choice by hearing 2 people saying it and one sounded best. The adverts and music on my radio represents my audience and what I choose what adverts I was going to do and what music play my audience was the first thing that came into my mind. It would be no good having an advert not appeal to my audience of Woman aged 18-30. I choose to have an advert on foundation and an advert on Take that coming back together for an album to appeal to my audience and asked different people that fitted in that category what they would like. When picking my news stories I listened to kiss and Capital to see what sorts of news stories they had and also on lots of different online newspapers like dailymail.co.uk, thesun.com ect.
When I chose my different characters I had to make sure I chose the right people because of the representation because if I chose the wrong person it wouldn't sound right. For example if I had a child reading the news. Here are two characters which have very very different representations:

Evaluation Question 1

To start my research on real radio I firstly listened whenever I could too Radio stations that I wanted mine to be like e.g. Kiss, Capital and Radio 1. This task really helped me because I feel like I picked up little things from listening to the stations at different times of the day and it also helped me choose a time for my station. It was a really difficult task not to just copy what was on the real radio onto mine but I think that by listening it helps you be creative and because I listened to 3 different stations you get a feel for a range of ways radios are presented. Once I had listened for a while too all 3 stations I felt that kiss 100 fm and Capital were most similar to what I was going to do on my radio. One difference between my radio and Capital and Kiss is that they have more music and jingles than my radio station. I chose to do that because I preferred there to be a little bit more talking than lots of music all the time.

I found that real radio included music like jingles, a show jingle, weather jingle, news jingle ect.
Here is my news jingle :

here is my show jingle:

here is my station jingle:

When I listened to real radio I also heard that they had news bulletins,  in my news bulletin there are 4 news stories as that was what the majority of the radios I listened too had. I have my main news without and with music. The reason I decided to add music was because I felt it sounded a bit plain and boring without the music in the back. Both are here:

News without music:

news with music :

When I listening to news bulletins I noticed that there were vox pop's, for example people on the street commenting on something thats just happened in the news. My vox pop's were people commenting on a recent break up. I felt they were useful and made the story more interesting.  Here are two of my vox pops:

Georgia:

Eitan:

Also when I listened to some news stories I noticed that there would be a cut to a correspondent who would be 'at the scene' for example a celebrity correspondent outside on the red carpet interviewing celebs. I used two outside broadcasts.

Celeb correspondent :

I heard adverts on all the stations that I listened too. Lots of different ones ranging from make-up to beer.
