News Story Analysis 2 - Crime Story/Human Interest Story

The second story I am looking at is from BBC News online and is a report on cuts in compensation for victims of crime. The story outlines that victims of violent crime who suffer minor injuries will not get compensation under changes which have come into effect in England,Wales and Scotland. You can click on the link below to read the full story.

The news values that the story contains include:

Immediacy: The story is breaking news as it is discussing a report that has just been published.
Familiarity: The story will affect the public across most of the UK.
Amplitude: The changes are likely to affect large numbers of people.
Impact: The story is likely to have a profound effect on a large number of people.
Surprise: Victims of crime will be surprised at the announcement.
Continuity: This is part of an on going story, as a number of reforms regarding compensation have happened.
Conflict: There is conflict between the government and the victims of crime, and the government and the unions.
Personilisation: This is a story that definitely will be of interest to the public. The reason being that anyone that has a minor injury that was before able to claim compensation will now no longer be eligible to claim any.
Negativity: This is bad news as its cutting down something that before was useful and needy to anyone having a minor accident.
Scandal: This story is definitely likely to cause outrage from as victims of crime are being affected - when they are the most needy and vulnerable.
